The goal is simple: proxies that are easy to read, consistent in sleeves, and durable enough for real shuffling—without turning your table into a “guess that card” game.

Print Quality & Materials

PrintMTG proxies are produced on premium black-core cardstock for a consistent in-sleeve feel and better durability than basic paper prints. We apply a protective coating for a smooth, TCG-style finish, then precision cut for consistent sizing and clean edges.

On the file side, we optimize prints for table readability: crisp rules text, sharp mana symbols, and clean linework. If you’re upgrading a deck in waves (a few staples now, the full list later), you should get the same look and feel every time you reorder.

Bottom line: your deck should shuffle cleanly, look consistent, and play smoothly—so the focus stays on the game.

Card Art & Versions

Get The Perfect Print For Your Deck

Proxies should be playable and pretty (we do both). When multiple printings are available, pick the art and version you want and we’ll print it with a focus on table readability: crisp rules text, sharp mana symbols, and clean linework.

If you’re building for fast gameplay, choose the most readable version. If you’re building for vibes, pick the art that makes you happy. Both are valid life choices.

What Are MTG Proxies?

A quick baseline so you can choose the right path and get prints that “feel right” at the table.

Stand-ins for play

Proxies are printed stand-ins for Magic cards used for testing, casual play, or cube. They’re a great way to try decks, play with friends, or avoid shuffling expensive originals.

Where they’re okay

Most proxy use happens in casual settings. Always follow the rules of your event and check with your playgroup or LGS if you’re unsure.

What makes a “good” proxy

Prioritize readability: correct name/mana/cost, clean rules text, and art that doesn’t muddy the frame. Picking the right printing/version is what makes proxies feel authentic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are PrintMTG proxy cards tournament legal?
No. Printed proxies are for casual play and playtesting where your pod, store, or event explicitly allows them. Sanctioned Magic tournaments generally require authentic cards (with rare, judge-issued exceptions for damaged cards during an event). If you’re unsure, ask the organizer or your LGS before you show up.
What’s the difference between a proxy, a playtest card, and a fake?
A proxy/playtest card is a stand-in so you can test decks or play casual games without chasing expensive cardboard. A fake is made to be mistaken for a real card (that’s not what we’re here for). Our goal is “readable, consistent, and obviously not tournament-legal.”
Can I print a single card? Is there a minimum order?
Yes—you can print a single card, and there are no minimums. A lot of players start with a few staples or upgrades, then come back for the full list once the deck feels right.
How does pricing work?
Pricing is tiered: the more cards you print, the lower the per-card price. You’ll see your current tier reflected as you build so you know what you’re paying before checkout.
How do I submit my decklist?
The easiest method is to paste your list (one card per line) or upload/export from a deckbuilder. If anything imports weird—typos, set codes, special characters—you can always search by card name and pick the version you want manually.
Can I choose card versions, sets, and artwork?
Yes—when multiple printings are available, choose the version/art you want. If you prioritize fast gameplay, pick the most readable frame/art. If you prioritize vibes, pick the version that makes you happy. Both are valid.
Do you print double-faced cards (DFCs/MDFCs)?
Yes. Double-faced cards are printed with both sides so they play like the real game piece. For gameplay, most players still sleeve DFCs (or use helper cards) depending on how their group prefers to handle reveals and transforms.
What size are the cards?
They’re cut to standard trading card size (Magic cards are approximately 2.5" x 3.5") so they fit properly in sleeves. Consistent sizing matters—especially in a 99-card deck—so we focus on clean, repeatable cuts.
What cardstock and finish do you use?
We print on premium black-core playing-card stock for opacity and a consistent in-sleeve feel. Cards are finished for durability and smoother handling—so they shuffle cleanly and don’t feel like “paper-in-a-sleeve.”
Do you print “official” backs?
We recommend custom backs for the lowest-drama experience. Custom backs keep things clear at the table, avoid confusion, and still play perfectly in sleeves.
Should I print tokens and emblems too?
If your deck reliably creates the same tokens or uses emblems, printing them is worth it. For one-off edge cases, it’s usually faster to use a generic token, a dry-erase token, or a spare card in a sleeve.
What’s turnaround time and how does tracking work?
Most orders are produced and shipped within a couple business days (Mon–Fri), then transit time depends on the shipping method you choose. Tracking can show “Label Created” for a bit—carriers often don’t scan until pickup or the next facility. If anything looks stuck beyond a reasonable window, contact support and we’ll help.
What if my order arrives miscut, damaged, or incorrect?
Send support your order number and a couple photos. If something arrived damaged or we made a mistake, we’ll work with you to make it right.
Can I print custom cards? What file specs should I use?
Yes—custom designs are fine as long as they’re readable and appropriate for casual play. For best results: use high-resolution art, keep important text away from edges, and avoid tiny fonts. If a file looks too low-res, it will show most in rules text and mana symbols.
