PrintMTG makes high-quality proxy cards for casual play, playtesting, and personal use. This page explains what proxy cards are for, where they can be used, and what they should not be used for.
If you have questions about a specific event or store policy, ask the organizer—house rules vary.
What our proxies are for
Our proxy cards are intended for:
- Casual “kitchen table” Magic
- Playtesting decks before buying expensive singles
- Cubes and casual formats where your group allows proxies
- Keeping originals safe (play with proxies while the real cards stay in binders)
In short: if you’re using proxies to enjoy the game with friends (or a proxy-friendly playgroup), you’re in the right place.
Not for sanctioned tournaments
PrintMTG proxies are not legal for sanctioned Magic: The Gathering tournaments.
Sanctioned events follow tournament rules and generally require authentic cards. Some events may allow judge-issued proxies in specific situations (for example, a card becomes damaged during the event), but that is handled by the event staff—not by third-party prints.
If you’re playing in a sanctioned event, assume proxies are not allowed unless the organizer explicitly tells you otherwise.
Not for resale as real cards
PrintMTG products are also not intended to be resold or represented as authentic Magic cards.
We do not support using proxies to:
- deceive buyers
- bypass authenticity checks
- create counterfeits
- list proxies as genuine cards
If you’re printing for personal play, playtesting, or proxy-friendly groups, you’re good. If you’re trying to make something that could be sold as “real,” that’s not what we do.
Be respectful of your playgroup and local store
Different groups have different expectations. We recommend:
- Ask first (Rule 0 conversations are normal—especially in Commander)
- Use proxies consistently (don’t surprise people mid-game)
- Match the power level of your table
- Follow your LGS rules for casual nights
Proxies work best when everyone is on the same page.
Our stance in one sentence
PrintMTG proxies are for casual play and playtesting—never for sanctioned tournament play and never for resale as authentic cards.
