At PrintMTG, we make high-quality MTG proxy / playtest cards for players who want a great table experience without turning every deck idea into a budget crisis. Our goal is simple: help make Magic more accessible for casual play and testing. We think printing proxies should be easy, and that’s our goal.
What is an MTG proxy?
A proxy is a stand-in for an official Magic: The Gathering card (or a token). Players use proxies in a few common ways:
- Handwritten stand-ins (paper in a sleeve over a basic land)
- Marked placeholders (writing a card name on the back of a bulk card)
- Printed proxies (a clearer, more consistent version for testing and casual games)
Printed proxies are popular because they’re readable, consistent in a deck, and make playtesting easier—especially when you’re trying a new list, building a Cube, or tuning a Commander deck.
Where proxies can (and can’t) be used
Proxy cards are not allowed in Wizards-sanctioned tournaments. They are great for Commander, kitchen-table Magic, Cube, playtesting, and proxy-friendly groups where everyone agrees on the rules up front.
Important: Our proxies are not official Magic cards and must never be resold or represented as authentic cards.
