Seattle police have apprehended a 28-year-old man implicated in the theft of approximately $40,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards from a warehouse where he was temporarily employed.
Officers responded to the facility located in the 5100 block of Leary Avenue Northwest in Ballard on January 23, following a report from a manager who detected significant discrepancies in their inventory of Magic cards. The business had employed temporary workers to assist with relocating its operations.
The investigation revealed that the suspect’s contract had concluded a few days earlier.
Subsequently, the business discovered cards, resembling those missing from their inventory, being sold from Washington on an online marketplace. An envelope from a transaction conducted through this marketplace contained the suspect’s name and address, leading to a breakthrough in the case.
Seattle police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where detectives successfully recovered the majority of the stolen Magic cards.
The suspect, aged 28, was taken into custody and booked into the King County Jail on charges of theft and trafficking in stolen property.
